Flashback Friday

Hubby and Me

I’m going to do a little flashback Friday blog series – I got the idea from my friend Hayley, who writes a blog called Hayley From Home. In my Flashback Fridays, I’m going to be showing you some of the cities I’ve visited since I met my husband 13 years ago. There aren’t loads but I thought it might be a nice non beauty related post. Let me know if you have visited any of the cities I feature.

The first city is Edinburgh. This is a city me and my husband have visited occasionally. My mum lives about 50 minutes North of Edinburgh so we enjoy visiting Edinburgh whenever we can. We normally stay over in the Mal Maison in Leith. Leith is about a 15 – 20-minute walk into the main city, and It’s a gorgeous hotel. The hotel itself is very close to The Royal Yacht Britannia.

EdinburghEdinburgh is a beautifully historic city you can do so many cultural things and the shopping in Edinburgh is great too they have Harvey Nichols, Mulberry, Anthropology, Jo Malone, SpaceNK and Jenners. So there is plenty of shopping to keep you busy.

You also can’t go to Edinburgh without walking up to visit its famous Castle, it’s stunning and has quite a view over the whole city. The old streets leading up to the castle are cobbled and lined with lots of shops, ghost tours, old churches and traditional pubs. It is so steeped in History.

You’re never short of entertainment in Edinburgh, as the street entertainers are so good. They have street theatre, mimes and people telling tales of old Edinburgh. Oh and Edinburgh Dungeon are worth a visit, you learn all about Burke & Hare I jumped out of my skin on numerous occasions

My favourite places to visit in Edinburgh are the National Museum of Scotland, which is free. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Mary King’s Close and of course the truly amazing Edinburgh Castle.

Every time I visit Edinburgh I am a complete tourist, I love visiting all the galleries and museums and just walking around all the old lanes and beautiful parks. It’s a very friendly city with plenty to keep you entertained day or night.

Let me know what you love to do in Edinburgh.

New To Me

New To Me

Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder / Revlon Grow Luscious / Garnier Dark Spot Corrector / Garnier BB Cream

I picked these 4 items up a while ago, does anyone else do that? Buy something then keep it for ages without using it. I had a Boots voucher before Christmas and these are what I picked up.

Rimmel Clear Complexion in Transparent

This was only £3.99 from Boots. For some reason I’ve only ever tried a couple of powders. One being my Mac Sheer Pressed Powder and the others are from e.l.f. I really like my Mac one but I thought it was time I tried one from Rimmel as the Stay Matt gets such rave reviews. I didn’t want a Matt finish so went for the Clear Complexion one as I could do with all the help I can get in that department. Have you tried this powder? Let me know what you think.

The packaging is OK – the lid isn’t the most secure but I rarely travel so this won’t often be out of the house. You also get quite alot 16g of product for your £3.99. That’s a pretty good deal. I will let you know how  find it. I was going to wait until my Mac Sheer Pressed Powder 12g £20.00 was finished but that’s taking me a long time, I’m just going to alternate them. That way I can compare which I prefer.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara

Me being the divvy I am picked up the brown instead of the black. I do that so often and because in the UK we’re unable to return cosmetics I’m stuck with it. I am looking forward to seeing if this makes any difference to my lashes. I can’t find it online to link to as they seem to have bought out a new one – the Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara. Even tho this is brown I will still use it, probably during the day. Still wish it was black.

My lashes aren’t super short but I think we’d all like them to be a little longer. More fluttery. I will keep you updated with any lash developments. I can’t remember what I paid for it but I think it was around £8.

Garnier Dark Spot Corrector

Being 34 – almost 35 my skin is starting to change, nothing dramatic but I notice slight differences. I have never been one to sunbathe or go on sunbeds. But I did live in Cyprus for a while & we are a family of skiers & so have been exposed to the sun. I am hoping that this helps a little with sunspots.

Also over the past year I have had some family stress & my skin has bore the brunt of that. Its been feeling dull and not as healthy looking as I know it usually is. So fingers crossed this Garnier cream helps brighten the meh areas and gives my skin a kick back into healthiness  I know that food plays a big part in that too & I have been making some positive changes in my diet and have been juicing and making smoothies where I can and eating alot more fresh organic foods. So I’m hoping the combination of the 2 work a small miracle.

I picked this up for £9.99 and i love the packaging. It’s in a metal style tube, it feels quite luxurious. As always let me know if you have any experience using this & if you have seen any improvements.

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Combination to Oily Skin

I have the original Garnier BB Cream & liked that but I definitely need the one for Oily skin. So when this was released last year I picked it up. I’ve had this for a while too but was using up my No7 BB cream. I will start using it when the weather is more warmer. I like wearing a fuller coverage foundation in the winter & BB Creams / Tinted Moisturiser in the Spring / Summer Do you use a BB cream? Which are your favourites.

Instagram Round Up #17

I am finally back in a routine after the Xmas / New Year break and its nice to be back and focused ont he year ahead. I made some big changes in my life before Christmas. The biggest and most exciting was to go Vegan  – for health reasons and my husband is doing it too and we are feeling the benefits. Its been almost 2 months and we’re finding new and yummy things to eat everyday.

Instagram Roundup Playmobil / B&B Surf Spray / The Blue Flower / Green Tea & Lemon / Beauty / Soya yoghurt/ Rekorderlig . Silverchair / Pomegranate & Orange Tea

I’m trying to read more books this year and that would’ve been easier to achieve if i hadn’t obliterated my kindle just before Christmas. So annoying, I’m gutted. Back to reading books which isn’t bad but I had so many on my Kindle waiting to be read and now I have to buy new ones. If you’ve any book recommendations for me, I’d love to hear them.

2013 has been OK so far. Had some bad news but I guess you have to face these things head on and try to be as positive as you can. I’m lucky to have a wonderfully supportive husband and super nice friends so I am lucky and grateful for that. I just want to have a relaxing and quiet end to January.
