Depotting Mac Shadows

So today I will be attempting to depot my Mac eyeshadows into a palette which I recently purchased from Katy who has a blog called Rotten Otters’s Thoughts. I don’t have a huge collection of Mac shadows. I’ve been collecting them slowly and really trying to buy colours that I will get a lot of use of & for me that’s always neutral colours.

The colours I have at the moment are

Bisque

Amber Lights

Naked Lunch

Woodwinked

Satin Taupe

Nylon

I’m quite nervous to de pot them so was hoping someone has some words of wisdom or advice for me before I jump in and make a complete hash of it. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have any suggestions as so what shadows I need in my collection to fill my palette. I have my eye on Time & Space and All That Glitters.

  1. ahhhh, brave girl!!! I can never bring myself to depot my eyeshadows… I wish I could, the palette looks very slick… I just need to grow a pair, shouldn’t I ;P
    Good luck! xx

p.s.: btw, is there a way to follow your blog GFC too? I follow HelloCotton but I don’t check the website as regularly. πŸ™ I love your blog!!!

    1. I have had the palette for a while now & kept putting it off. You can follow me through bloglovin – but I dont have GFC, sorry

  2. I was nervous to depot mine as well. Luckily, the process was quite simple. I heated up my flat iron, popped out the shadow from the groove in the pot, then carefully placed it on the surface of the flat iron for a few seconds. Once the back was melted enough and had created a ‘guide’ as to where to poke it with the tip of the knife, the eyeshadow pan easily popped out. Be careful though because the metal eyeshadow pan is hot! Definitely let it cool for a bit before you touch it.

Let us know how it worked out for you! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks for the tips. I think they will be used more if i can see them all in one place. This is my logic anyway. I will take a few photos of me doing it so i can do a post on it. :o)

  3. Ah – you will be fine! There are lots of videos on Youtube you can check out. Some of your shadows, I have too – I love Satin Taupe πŸ™‚ Its one of my favourites. All That Glitters is really pretty too, hopefully you will get that soon!
    All the best

  4. I’ve depotted several of mine. I used the foil on straighteners trick to melt the bottom and push the bottom up with scissors till it pops out.
I bought some magnet tape from eBay to stick them in thr palette but it’s not great as it makes the shadows higher than they should be in the palette. Definitely go for it as you can take them back to mac and get your free lipstick! I recommend Swiss chocolate, just reviewed it on my new blog. http://glossyboutique.blogspot.com

    1. Swiss chocolate sounds lovely. I will swatch that today. Whilst I’m in town. Picking up some foil to do the depottinh too. Thanks for the tip.

  5. Oh wow, I love all those Mac shades, wish I had the money for all of those. I just purchased the Mac Brave lipstick so looking forward to trying that. Good luck with your depotting. xx

    1. I have never seen Mac Brave. I will swatch it when im next in. I am waiting on magnets to hold my pans in then i will attempt it.
