Just Not For Me #1

I don’t often post about products I don’t like as I tend to take my time researching my makeup & skincare buys so I don’t have that many, but I have been saving up a few things that haven’t worked for me and thought I would let you know what they are.

Skincare

Naked Skin Blinking Lovely Eye Makeup Remover – I bought this from my local Savers a couple of weeks ago for £1.99 & I’ve tried a few products from this brand that are great but this eye makeup remover I found really stung my eyes. I don’t have overly sensitive eyes but I just couldn’t use this without it hurting so I had to stop using it. I have passed this on to a friend and it doesn’t sting for her so it must just be personal preference & my eyes are more sensitive than I thought.

Smashbox Halo Yellow Colour Correcting Powder  – This is a yellow toned finally milled powder that is for people that suffer from uneven skin tone and redness but I just didn’t see that much of an improvement when I had this on. It didn’t sit very well on me & I expected a little more from it, especially for the price. I think this was one of those impulse purchases I regret, I should have read a few reviews first. I think a liquid corrector would be better for me, as powder can look a little heavy on me & often sinks in to my fine lines.

Colours

Seventeen Wild Metallic Eyes in Wild Nude – I love a cream shadow and have quite the addiction to buying them. This Seventeen one is in a gorgeous deep metallic brown & I had high hopes for it but the formula was quite greasy and didn’t apply well to my eye. The pigmentation was patchy and it only lasted about an hour before the colour was all but gone. Not one I would even pass on to a friend. Stick to the Maybelline colour tattoos if you need a budget friendly cream shadow,

Maybelline Baby Lips – These aren’t terrible & I do have a few I’m using up but the hype around these was so big. I gave in to the hype & bought quite a few. These are hardly tinted at all & they don’t show up on my lips. I wouldn’t say they were hydrating, they make your lips feel nice and smooth but in terms of being moisturising I wouldn’t say they were. There are other budget friendly lip balms I’d recommend before these & they are Apivita and the Caudalie lip conditioner. So if you want more than a cute packaged lip smoother I’d opt for another lipbalm

Benefit The Porefessional – I so wanted to like this & have tried it many times but for some reason it doesn’t sit well under my makeup, it makes my foundation look patchy . It also feels quite greasy on my oily t zone after a couple of hours and it started to look flakey so unfortunately I have to pass the stash of minis I have on to a friend (good for her, bad for me). If you have any primer suggestions for oily skin then I’d love to hear them.

    1. This sounds luxurious, there is a store near me, I might pop in & ask them to apply it so I can see how it wears on me. Thanks for the suggestion

  1. I recommend Rimmel Stay Matte Primer. It smoothes on skin really well and leaves a nice matte moisturised looking finish but definitely reduces shine. I find it makes a nice base.

It’s refreshing to hear of disliked products for once!

    Much love x

  2. I love posts like this!! I totally agree with you on the Porefessional, I don’t think it works well at all with oily skin, it seems to make my face even oilier! 🙁

    1. Isn’t funny what works for one person is a favourite for others. Thats why I love hearing about what works for you too. I have passed my stash on to my niece & she loves them

  3. It’s always interesting to see what products do and don’t work for different people! I love Benefit’s Porefessional, but I’d also recommend the Bourjois Happy Light Primer as it’s a completely different formula and still reasonably priced.

    xx

    1. Oh yes, Bourjois Happy Light Primer, that sounds like a good budget friendly primer. Thanks, I will try it out

  4. I’m glad I’m not the only one who isn’t obsessed with Baby Lips! Also, I found the Porefessional did the same for me. I have normal-dry skin and it made mine greasy so I hate to think what it would do for someone with oily-combination skin! xx

  5. I don’t have a primer suggestion but I’d definitely recommend the Urban Decay deslick setting spray, I have an oily t-zone too and I spray this on before and after make up and it makes a huge difference!
    xx

    1. LOVE the UD De Slick Spray, Its a must for summer or if you’re going on a night out. Id never be without it

  6. A totally refreshing post Vicki, great to hear what doesn’t work for someone. I see those Babylips everywhere but haven’t tried them yet but you are right, they were really hyped up so it’s a shame they disappointed!

    1. I have been loving Clarins Skincare lately & will be sure to look out for the Primer – thanks for the recommendation

    1. They’re not the best, but I have heard they are in the Poundshop & B&M stores so cheap if you want to try them

  7. I love porefessional, which surprised me as I usually don’t get on with products like that at all! I hope you find something that works for you

    1. Thanks – I think Im going to try some of the suggestions from this post, I know that this Benefit one works for lots of people & I wish it worked for me but Im too oily for it & it slips right off me :o(

  8. I’m with you on the Baby Lips and Porefessional. I love the Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer – the formula is just like a moisturiser so none of that slippery, silicone feel xx

    1. Thanks for the recommendation, I have a LM tinted moisturiser that I love & I have heard good things about their Oil Free products. I will be sure to check it out next time Im at a counter

  9. Totally agree on the Porefessional/Baby lips front. Porefessional broke me out like I don’t know what and I just don’t see the point in baby lips really!

    1. Baby lips are just a brightly packaged cheap lip balm. I have a few I will pass on to my little niece. They just don’t do enough for my lips.

    1. Thanks Megan, I try to really think about what I purchase as not to waste my money but there are always going to be products that don’t work for whatever reason. I think I will do a few more of these posts as I have a couple more products that I will be passing on

  10. I’m still on the fence about the Porefessional! Think I need to give it another try but I’m not willing to buy a full size one haha! xo

  11. Thanks for this! I’m always looking for reviews before buying new products and this is helpful, especially because I have sensitive eyes.

  12. I hate the BabyLips – I find the formula moisturising but only for an hour and in the end I had to apply it about 15 times a day which dried my lips out in the end by making them sore.

The Smashbox powder seems interesting although I don’t think I will bother purchasing after reading this as I have fine lines too. Darn getting older haha
