December 2012 Empties

I know I’m a little late with this post but I’ve been getting back into the swing of things after the craziness of Christmas and New Year. Over the month of December I tried hard to use up all the products that had been hanging around for ages. I knew I’d get a few beauty related gifts for Christmas (which I did, see that post here) so needed to make a little space. So without further delay here are my empties from December.

December 2012 Empties

Nivea Water lilly & Oil Body Wash – this is a really nicely scented product. It’s fresh and sweet, it left my skin nice and hydrated. I really liked this and it was a bargain at only £1. If I see it again I will repurchase. Pantene Clarifying Shampoo this was from the poundshop and I am not too sure it was that clarifying. Took me ages to use it up. Now I have I won’t repurchase.

I used up 2 mascaras this month the No7 Exceptional Definition Mascara in Black this was a sample I got with purchase & I have owned many a full size of this mascara. I love it. It makes my lashes look thick and long. It is the Mascara I go back to time and time again. The other is the No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara in brown (changed packaging). I wouldn’t say the was Exquisite Curl. It made my lashes nice and thick but not something I’d repurchase.

Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover, I think this was a bit of a hyped product that I bought into. I won’t repurchase it as I find the cotton wool / nail polish option a lot better and dare I say it quicker. St Ives Apricot Body Scrub I bought this when it was half price at Superdrug and it lasted me quite a long time. I liked using it and it left my skin feeling soft and really smooth. I blogged about it here. If I see it on offer I will pick up a couple.

December 2012 Empties

Garnier Eye Makeup Remover – this was great. It is cheap and really works well to remove eye makeup. I have already repurchased this. Elemis Pro Collagen Body Cream, this came in a latest in beauty box. With this being a sample size I can’t say if it helps tone but I certainly liked the consistency and how it left my skin feeling soft and moisturised. I’d love to try the full size and see if it makes a difference to my ageing skin.

December 2012 Empties

This month I ran out of both my Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Body Lotion and Perfume. This is my favourite, I love citrus scents. I always repurchase this. It smells so pretty. The body lotion lasts for so long on the skin. My lovely husband bought me the perfume for Christmas so I won’t be without it.

No7 Protect & Perfect Night Cream, this glass jar feels very luxurious and I have enjoyed using it. It is a very heavy cream. I think it’s a little too greasy for me and won’t repurchase. Murad AHA / BHA Exfoliating Cleanser, this was from another latest in beauty box and I’m so sad it’s finished. I used the last bit on Christmas morning and was gutted. If you want a cleanser that really gives your skin a deep clean and leaves it looking bright then this is for you. Once I have saved up I will be repurchasing the full size. I have written a blog post on this here.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, I use this when I wear makeup which isn’t everyday. It is one of the best cleansers at removing ALL of your makeup. It cleans like no other. I always have a tube of it in the bathroom. Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm, I very rarely use up a lip balm. I have a draw full of lip balms and have made it my mission to use one up before starting a new one & this was the first one I’ve used up in a long time. It was nice and I have always used Nivea lip products. They are always a bargain. Can’t really go wrong with these.

December Empties 2012

Last up are the Botanics Cleansing Face Wipes. I did a blog post on these here. So wont say too much other than I won’t be repurchasing.

Phew that was a fair few products. If you have written an empties post leave me a link as these are one of my favourite posts to read.

Glitter Polish and Nail Care

I already blogged about my Most Worn Nail Polish of 2012 and thought I would just add the 3 glitter colours I have worn the most & share with you my base coat / top coat of choice too. I love Glitter colours they add something extra to your nails and who doesn’t love a little sparkle?!

Glitter Polish 2012Topshop Razzmatazz  – I find myself taking this out of my draw just to look at it. So pretty. It’s jam-packed full holographic glitter of various sizes its has blues, silvers are greens from what I can make out. It’s safe to say it is a firm favourite of mine.

No7  Silver Glitter Top Coat. This was limited edition during the summer. They had a gold option too but I went with silver. It’s a clear polish with large silver glitter. It can be hit and miss with how much glitter come out. But a couple of coats puts enough on as a top coat.

Essence Circus Confetti Rainbow Glitter – this has been described as a dupe for OPI Rainbow Connection. It has lots of different sized glitter in so many pretty colours. It looks amazing over black polish and was only 2 euro from Amsterdam.

Glitter Top Coats

Top Coats

In 2012 these 3 polishes are the only base coat, top coat and nail strengthener I used. The Avon Nail Experts Base Coat is great. It stops your nails getting stained. Esp with those blue and green polishes. They are a pain without a base coat. This also helps my nail polish go on smoother. * At the moment on Avon this is half price!

The Avon Nail Experts 24k Gold Strength. I use this when I don’t want to wear a colour on my nails. It has a tiny hint of gold shimmer in and it does help strengthen your nails. Not that I have a problem with weak nails

Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat. I’ve gone through a few of these and I always find in TK Maxx for £3.99. I love my nail polish with this as the top coat. It makes them look so glossy and it helps my colour POP and i’d say my polish chips a lot less when I use this.

Most Worn Nail Polish of 2012

Most Worn Nail Polish 2012

2012 was the year my nail polish collection more than doubled. I went a little crazy. So it was hard work narrowing down my most worn nail polishes. I managed to get it down to 9 and that took me quite a while.

Nail Polish

So first up we have my ANNY 367 Most Wanted Polish that I bought in Amsterdam. It’s a complete dupe for the Chanel 531 Peridot. Its so pretty and was a complete bargain. I wear it whenever I can. It’s such an unusual colour and I always get compliments when I have it on.

Models Own Utopia which I picked up back in Sept / Oct when they had their 50% online sale. This is a great base for glitter polishes. Its pretty and subtle. Can’t go wrong with this colour.

Sally Hansen Delphinium was a bargain I picked up from the poundshop. It’s such a great quality polish & I love the wide brush. It makes application so easy. This colour is a really pale lilac. I wear it when I don’t want bright nails. Just something clean and simple. I have a few more polishes from this line all from the poundshop and the formulation is amazing.

Rimmel 350 Violet Metal Lasting Finish Pro again this was from the pondshop & it is just the most pretty purple polish. It’s quite a vampy colour and it looks great anytime of year. I blogged about it here.

Nail Polish 2012

Angelica Holiday Fun this is a vibrant pink polish. I picked this up from Primark for £2.50. They have a great selection of colours. I wore this alot over the summer. I have blogged more in-depth about these here.

Essie Nail Polish. I have no idea what colour this is. I picked it up in a set of 3 from TK Maxx and all the names are wrong. So if you have any idea which colour this is I’d love to know. It’s a soft pink and I love it. I wear it so often. It goes with everything.

Barry M  Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Pomegranate. I love this deep red / pink colour. It’s so glossy and lasts for ages without chipping. I blogged about it here.

Nail Polish blues

These last two blue polishes are my absolute favourites. I enjoy wearing these so much.

Topshop AWOL nail polish. This is a striking blue. So deep and pretty. I just love it. In fact I’m a huge fan of all the Topshop nail polishes I own. They are great quality. I have blogged about it here.

Lastly, my beloved Rimmel 819 in Green With Envy. This is so pretty. It’s an unusual metallic green. I bought it in the summer and have worn it almost every week since. When I am stuck for something to put on I always come back to this colour.

Nail Polish Swatches

What are your nail polish must haves from 2012. If you have written a post leave me the link. I’d love to read it.

Beauty Gifts 2012

This Christmas was the first time in 13 years that my hubby & I didn’t have to drive the 600 mile round trip to visit both our families. As they all came to us. This had its own stresses but we managed it. It was lovely having most of our families in the same room since our wedding. My hubby made a lovely Christmas dinner and we ate and relaxed all day. It seems like so long ago now but I thought I would show you the Beauty items I received from my hubby and family. I was gifted so many nice things.

2012 Beauty Gifts

I am excited to try my Stila Seeing Stars Smudge Stick Set – I have wanted some of these for so long. I have such watery eyes & need my eyeliner to be heavy-duty. Currently has a 3rd off in Boots. £16 is a bargain for 5 eyeliners.

SpaceNK Laughter Perfume, I used to wear this all the time 5 years ago & for some reason I stopped. My lovely mum bought this mini bottle for me &  I am over joyed to have it in my life again. It smells amazing.

Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia – The hubby snuck this one under the tree. Even after we said we weren’t doing gifts this year. Its my signature scent and I can’t be without a bottle.

Mac MSF Soft and Gentle. This has been on my wish list for the longest time and I never got round to purchasing it. So was over the moon to find it under the tree.

Beauty Gifts Christmas 2012

I received some great gifts sets Burt’s Bees Tips and Toes Kit, The Body Shop Delux Vitamin E Skincare Set  & the fabulous Sanctuary Spa Sheer Indulgence Set. So in 2012 I will be smelling amazing & hopefully looking me best too, well I best be with all these fab products to use.

I hope you all had a relaxing and family filled Christmas. Some of you may know that this past year has been the hardest in my 34 years. My dad is still recovering from a Stroke he had last Christmas. It’s so hard to see someone you love be so ill and dependant on other people. My dad was in the Armed Forces for 26 years and was so independent and loved to work. Everything changed a year ago. He is no longer able to work and had to learn to walk and talk again. The mental side of stroke is something that gets eclipsed by the physical. The cognitive things are the hardest and take the longest to learn again. He is improving with each day but I find it so hard to see him so changed. I’m hoping for a more positive 2013. I have made some positive changes in my life in terms of diet and taking on less stress I am really going to try to stick to that.

Happy New Year to you all x
