Makeup Setting Powders

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder

This loose powder is so fine & lightweight, it never feels heavy or drying on the skin. Its a translucent powder so its not going to add coverage or leave a white cast to your skin. It is great at setting makeup and keeping that oily t zone in check. I like to apply this with a big powder brush & sweep the product across my t-zone & chin, it has a really nice floral scent and my go to powder for eliminating that dreaded shine but leaving the skin with a slight matte velvety smooth finish. It contains these key ingredients

– Corn Starch & Rice Starch act as natural substitutes for talc, while Silican imparts a smooth texture on skin.
– Glycerin helps to moisturise and prevent moisture loss.
– Arnica helps soothe and cool the skin.

The packaging feels and looks high quality, you do get a powder puff with it but I do use a brush – but I leave the puff in the lid to stop the powder coming out when I travel. There is also a mirror in the lid which is very handy and you get 10g of product which will last you for ages. This is a powder I highly recommend if you have more oily prone skin.

Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder

bareMinerals Bareskin Perfecting Veil Mineral Powder

This is such a lovely compact and the pressed mineral powder is so smooth, lightweight and gives the skin a beautiful healthy finish. I have the lightest shade and it has a nice natural finish without adding too much colour too the skin. It is a nice powder for achieving a fresh, silky smooth and healthy look to the skin, its just the perfect way to set your makeup and stop your skin becoming oily throughout the day. Its such a great quality product and it never looks heavy or powdery on the skin. I also like the bareMinerals loose powders but this is just so much easier to travel with and creates a lot less mess.

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot

This is a pressed powder and one of my all time favourites. It ticks all the boxes. If you want an affordable powder that will control oil, leave the skin looking flawless but not add any colour then this is your guy. Its also compact and sturdy to travel with. Seriously you need this powder in your life.

Face Powders

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

I used to love this and use it all the time but over the past year or so I have noticed its not getting used as much. This is still a great powder for giving the skin a matte finish and setting makeup but I like the Soap & Glory one better, the finish is more natural. This is a good option if you are on a budget or travelling and don’t want your more expensive powder to get broken.

L’Oreal True Match Powder

This is a good powder for adding a little extra coverage and evening out skintone. I have the shade rose / beige and its a good match for my fair complexion. Its not overly pigmented but you can build up the coverage. It gives a nice flawless finish to the skin and blurs pores and leaves skin looking fresh, even and velvety smooth. I love using this when I’m wearing a more full coverage look and want my makeup to stay in place and look its best all night. This also works well on its own at add a subtle healthy colour to the skin and reduce the appearance of redness. Its a pretty decent all round powder and I do rate L’Oreal base products and this one doesn’t disappoint either.

What are your current favourite makeup powders and have you tried any of the ones I have mentioned?

Favourite Face Powders

OK so these aren’t all of my powder face products but I try & rotate them so they all get used and these are the ones I want to use more during May. I just have them in two cardboard boxes and I keep them on my vanity so they’re easy to reach.

I have a couple of the Benefit Boxed Powers but Dallas is the one I seem to use the least, although I actually like it a lot. I think its because I need to be more tanned to use it as it can show up quite dark on my skin. It gives the skin a pretty radiance and healthy glow. So now is the perfect time of year to use it more.

Urban Decay The After Glow Highlighter in Sin* is a gorgeous long wearing luminous highlighter. You need so little product and it makes you look radiant. I adore it and think it looks especially pretty when you add a little down the bridge of your nose just to catch the light. Very pretty indeed.

Glo & Ray make some of my favourite blushers, this one in Star Dust is a beautiful peachy pink with an iridescent finish. It gives you a peach flush and that iridescent finish adds a little highlight to your cheeks too. These are great quality and I find them long wearing and easy to blend.

L’Oreal True Match Face Powder in Rose Beige – I haven’t used this a whole lot, but I do like the colour match and it looks and feels lightweight on my skin. It gives a little added coverage which is nice and you get a mirror so that’s a bonus. I’m looking forward to using this more and will update you as to how it holds up in the warmer weather.

Rimmel Stay Matte in Transparent – this used to be my go-to powder for years until I discovered the bareMinerals Mineral Veil and it didn’t get as much love. I know I love this powder and it’s an incredible budget-friendly face powder. It never lets me down & I am happy to be reunited with it.

L’Oreal Glam Bronze Duo – This has been another rediscovery from my collection and I have to say I really like it. You get a light cream shade and a matte bronzer shade. I just use them together and swirl my brush around and use it as a bronzer. Its very pigmented but it gives a natural warmth to my skin. This will be getting lots of love as the weather heats up.

Face Powder Collection

Topshop Highlighter in Sunbeam – One of my favourite products, I love the packaging and this is also massive. You get so much product, it looks like I have hardly used it but over the years its had a lot of use. It’s a golden highlighter, which needs a very light hand. So a little product goes a very very long way. Great for achieving that summer goddess beach look & I have even used it as eyeshadow. Works well for both.

Urban Decay Bronzer in Bronzed* – Another beautiful matte bronzer, this looks great on my skin and blends well too. It never looks muddy or orange and I like that its matte. Also, the palm tree packaging just screams Summer

bareMinerals Perfecting Veil – if you like your face powder to give you that soft focus look then I think this is one of the best products I have found for that. It always makes my skin look flawless and radiant. Its lightweight and never looks powdery. It’s also really good to dust on throughout the day to keep shine at bay.

bareMinerals Bronzer in Skinny Dip – gorgeous mineral bronzer that gives your skin that beachy sun-kissed look. It’s a lovely warm bronzer and its matte so that’s always a plus. I can’t wait to use this more and really put it to the test.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop in Ecstasy – This has to be one of the most beautiful products I own & that makes it hard to use (it’s just too beautiful). I was sad that it was sat in a drawer never being used so I have looked it out and have vowed to use it. You get two beautiful peachy pink colours that add a healthy flushed look to your cheeks & the packaging is stunning.

Face Powder Makeup Storage

Physicians Formula Happy Booster in Rose – I haven’t used this much at all since I got it & thought if I didn’t reach for it over the next few weeks I am going to pass it on. It is a pretty pink shade but for some reason, I never go out of my way to use it. So its make or break for this. Watch this space.

Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle – Always a classic and I do love it but I have been using it more as an eyeshadow and think it looks beautiful all over the lid. Its brightening and gives a beautiful almost metallic finish.

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot – I have hit pan on this face powder which is almost unheard of for me. I used this so much last year and it was a really great powder. It was good at keeping my t zone oil-free and giving my skin a matte finish without being too dramatic or heavy.

My Most Used Face Powders

Soap & Glory Love at First Blush & Wonderbronze – these are two of my favourite products from Soap & Glory. I like that both products are multi-shade, it means that you get a lovely mix of colours and it never looks quite the same. They’re beautiful quality and add a touch of colour & glow to your cheeks.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder – I have also hit pan on this too & can’t wait to repurchase because the packaging has since been updated to a more robust plastic compact, whereas mine is a flimsy cardboard and has fallen apart. I use this so often and love the natural bronze glow it gives. It’s subtle but very pretty.

Soap & Glory Glow All Out – I’m still at a loss as to how to use this, I find its too shimmery as a face powder and not quite the right colour as a highlighter. Let me know if you use it & ow you make it work.

Favourite Face Powders

Mac Select Sheer Pressed Powder – This is a bit meh and I am just trying to use it up. I have since discovered much better powders and this has been relegated to the won’t repurchase list.

Essence Sun Club Bronzing Highlighter – This is beautiful & it smells of coconut. It’s a wonderful affordable highlighting bronzer. I love the mix of shades. This bronzer gives a subtle warmth to your skin and is the perfect way to pretend you have been on a Summer holiday without leaving the country. Wilko in the UK sells a great range of Essence products.

What powder products have you been loving this month or have any been a little on the disappointing side? let me know in the comments.

Travel Makeup Bag Scotland Edit

Scotland Makeup Edit

I have just returned from visiting family in Scotland & I was there for almost 3 weeks. I thought i’d share with you the makeup I took with me. First off I love this makeup bag, it was a limited edition release from Origins last year & they teamed up with fashion designer Nanette Lepore. It is a beautiful design and it fits quite a good amount of products in. I do have my brushes packed separately so this just had my makeup in.

My Scotland Makeup Bag

I took my B. Prepared Illuminating Makeup Primer* this leaves my skin feeling silky smooth and doesn’t add any slip or shine to the skin but instead it adds a beautiful luminous glow to the skin without any shimmer or glitter. It is a really nice smooth base for my foundation to sit on top of & it helps my makeup last all day whilst adding a healthy glow to my skin. It also has Hyaluronic acid and vitamin E which are great at hydrating skin and helping reduce the signs of fatigue.

Talking about foundations I took 4 bases with me, sounds excessive but 2 are sample sizes & the other two are totally different options. The one I used most frequently was the Bourjois CC Cream* it gives my skin a light, natural coverage whilst counteracting redness and evening out your skin tone. I found it so easy to blend and wears really well throughout the day. I love this & I’m so pleased with it. If you’re looking for a Summer base this might be the one.

Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude Foundation* – This was bought on a whim a couple of weeks ago & I have been blown away by it. It gives more coverage than the Bourjois CC Cream but it still isn’t heavy in the skin and I would say it gives a medium coverage. Its a very watery formula which I think is very easy to blend and it gives the skin a gorgeous satin finish, it makes my skin look incredible & I don’t need to powder unless I want it to last all day & into the night which isn’t often.

Scotland Makeup Edit

I took the Ginvera Green Tea BB Cream too and I like that its a light coverage and provides a natural touch of colour so my complexion looks bright & even. It has a lovely creamy consistency which I found very easy to blend, I did lightly powder but I don’t think thats 100% necessary. This BB Cream covers all bases it provides a SPF30, protects against free radicals, conceals imperfections & contains hyluronic acid for all day hydration. So you’re getting a lovely BB Cream with the added skincare benefits which Asian brands are renowned for.

I always take my MUA Undress Me Too Palette as its so slim & has 12 eyeshadows in, so lots of neutral options. I like that its affordable so I’m not worried about it getting damaged in transit & I think all the shadows are great quality and are perfect for wearing during the day.You get 2 mattes and a mix of metallic finishes and shimmers, so quite a varied selection for a £4 palette. I also took the Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette in Nude Bronze which is a more recent purchase & the shadows in this palette wear slightly longer & I love how pigmented and pretty they are. If you love gold, bronzy shimmers then this is the one. Again it’s such an affordable palette & I highly recommend checking it out. There are a few in this range & this one has more metallic, shimmery options. So perfect for the evening.

I took two cream eyeshadows & they were the Bourjois Colorband Eye Crayon in Brun dadaiste & Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Sugar Frost these are my go to eye option for a lazy makeup day. they look pretty on the lids & they last all day. I also just blend them out using my finger, its so quick and easy.

Travel Makeup Bag

I am so in love with the Soap & Glory Supercat Liner that I had to pack it, its amazing at getting that perfect, precise liner that you can make look more dramatic if you want to. Wonderful deep black pigmentation and no smudging throughout the day. Try it if you like liquid liner, you will not be disappointed.

My Benefit Boiing Concealer is always in my makeup bag, I have repurchased it so many times because it just works. It covers everything and anything & it never looks cakey. Its quite creamy and you can blend so easily but once its on it stays in place for hours. Its heavy duty and a concealer that you can rely on. I also took my Bobbi Brown Corrector because I am trying to shop my stash & I hadn’t used this for a while & I knew that Scotland would be a lot of early mornings & late nights so this was going to be my product to counteract the dark under eyes.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder – This is my favourite bronzing duo, its very handy for travel having 2 shades. I think this bronzer gives me a sun kissed glow & a touch of natural colour. I must have used it everyday since I bought it. I do hate the flimsy cardboard packaging & the lid / mirror is about to rip off any day which is such a shame. Next up is Elf Pinktastic which is a baked highlighting blush with pink and beige marbling, it really brightens up your cheeks and leaves them looking flushed and glowing. The shimmer isn’t too OTT but looks fresh and is a beautiful highlight.

I took two blushers with me the first is the Max Factor Creme Puff in Gorgeous Berries* which is just beautiful, and it adds such a pretty warm rosy glow to your cheeks. The last blush I took is the Essence Silky Touch Blush in Babydoll which it is a soft pink and I think quite a natural colour so it gives your cheeks a very subtle fresh healthy look.

Travel Makeup Scotland Edit

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot is a wonderful setting powder if you have an oily t zone, its keeps my foundation in place and from looking shinny after a couple of hours. I have hit pan on this too. I also took my Mac Select Sheer Pressed Powder NW25 this powder gives my skin a little more coverage & sets my makeup. I use it at night because of the extra coverage it gives, it makes my foundation look flawless and stops my skin getting oily. I have had it for ages & I’ve almost used it up. I always forget I have it but love it when I rediscover it, its just a great all round powder.

I only took two lip options and they were both lip crayons. The Origins KissZing Lip Crayon in Rosemance* this has to be my favourite everyday lip colour. Rosemance is a soft nude rose shade, it gives your lips a pinch of colour & looks natural and pretty. The formula is quite creamy and glides on effortlessly, feels hydrating on the lips but not greasy at all. I have it in my handbag ALL the time. I also took the Lord & Berry Twistick in Shut Up* which a deep plum shade & is my go to evening lip colour.

So thats what I took with me for 17 days in Scotland, do you think I packed light?
